The Sports Trust Announces Update On Plans to Reopen Folkestone Sports Centre Swimming Pool
The Sports Trust has announced its commitment to renovate and reopen the swimming pool at Folkestone Sports Centre, the hope is that doors will open Summer 2026. This is a vital step in restoring this essential community facility.
Since taking ownership, The Sports Trust has undertaken a full programme of surveys and preliminary works to assess the current condition of the facility and inform a fully costed plan. The initial focus is on the swimming pool, with key improvements planned for the pools and changing rooms. Initiating the swimming pool works has been supported by Sport England and the Swimming Pool Fund who have provided initial some funding for upgrading the pumps and pool infrastructure, as a result the work is now underway.
The Trust warns that plans to reopen the swimming facilities in Summer 2026 will be subject to the successful securing of the additional funding needed to deliver all the necessary works.
A Community Milestone
The reopening of the swimming pool is more than just a refurbishment, it’s a community effort. Living by the coast, learning to swim is not only a life skill but a matter of safety and empowerment. The pool will provide a safe, accessible space for people of all ages to learn, train, and enjoy the benefits of swimming.
While the pool is The Sports Trust’s priority, they continue to explore options for all other sports provision within the centre, and they ask for the community’s patience as these plans develop.
A spokesperson for The Sports Trust said;
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Roger De Haan Charitable Trust and Folkestone and Hythe District Council for their support and shared vision in bringing this facility back to life. Their backing has been imperative for The Sports Trust to take on a project of this scale.
“We are working diligently on the wider project and will continue to keep the public informed as progress and decisions are made. The interest, encouragement, and kind words from the community have been deeply appreciated. This is a collective effort, and we thank everyone who has contributed so far and continues to offer help and support.”
